With nine days to go, there’s still time and the opportunity to get in on Gem Mint’s limited-edition variant cover for “The Invincible Red Sonja” No. 1 from Dynamite Entertainment through crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.

The variant cover, which was digitally penciled, inked and colored by 16-year-old artist Jade Hope of Florida, pairs with Dynamite’s new sword-and-sorcery Red Sonja comic book series that launches later this spring. Hope is the daughter of Gem Mint, who produces a popular comics-themed YouTube channel titled Gem Mint Collectibles, which has 115,000 subscribers.

The Indiegogo campaign is already fully funded, and on Tuesday it passed the $10,000 threshold, unlocking a limited-edition promo card that all backers will receive. Pledge levels for the crowdfunding project start at $20 and tier up, with a metal cover being available, and there’s even an option for collectors to get their variant pre-slabbed by Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), the popular third-party grading service for comics and collectibles.

“The Invincible Red Sonja” No. 1, from co-writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner of “Harley Quinn” fame, with interior art by former “Elephantmen” artist Moritat, goes on sale May 5. The solicitation from the Previews catalog for the first issue reads: “Red Sonja finds herself on a spectacular journey filled with pirates, mermaids, princesses, and political intrigue as the threat of two kingdoms hangs in the balance.”

The superheroine Red Sonja was created by Roy Thomas with Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics in 1973. The character is inspired by Robert E. Howard’s Red Sonya and Dark Agnes characters. Dynamite has been publishing Red Sonja comics since the mid-2000s.
